Cold season can be difficult to get through. Not only can having a cold make you feel miserable, but once one family member gets a cold, the other family members are usually not far behind in catching that cold. Luckily, there are a lot of things you can do to not only ease cold symptoms in those who are sick but also help keep the cold from spreading through your home. Monarda essential oil is a natural remedy that can really help. Here are two ways you can use it during cold season.

Inhale It During a Shower

Taking a hot shower and inhaling the steam has long been a way to ease congestion during a cold. If you add Monarda essential oil to the mix, the steam you inhale will be even more effective. There are a few ways to use Monarda essential oil during a shower. One option is to close the bathtub drain, put a few drops of Monarda essential oil in the bottom of your tub, and then shower over the oil. The water will build up in the tub, but as hot water mixes with the essential oil, you'll get steam with a lovely, Monarda scent. Once the tub is sufficiently full, you can turn off the shower and spend a little more time resting in the tub and continuing to inhale the steam.

Apply It To Your Chest

If you're congested and don't have time to take a shower, you can apply Monarda essential oil directly to your chest instead. Just start by mixing it with an equal amount of almond oil or olive oil so it's not too strong. Apply a few drops of the mixture to your chest, and rub it in well. The vapors will travel up to your nose so you can inhale them.

Not only will this ease cold symptoms like a runny nose or congestion, but it may also help keep people from catching the cold. So, if one family member comes home with a cold, you may want to apply diluted Monarda essential oil to the chests of other family members for the next few days.

If you follow the advice above to use Monarda essential oil during cold season, you should feel better and perhaps also keep other family members from catching the cold. This is a great oil to keep on hand during the colder months.
